WBJEE Result 2025 : The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2025 results have been postponed due to a court case being filed against the WBJEEB. Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court has ordered the board to declare a new merit list of examinees as the current one did not match up with the court's earlier order on the OBC reservations. The board has to publish a fresh merit list within a period of 15 days.

The Calcutta High Court is hearing a contempt case against the state government and WBJEEB over violation of the court order regarding the OBC quota. The West Bengal JEE result 2025 stands indefinitely postponed, Justice Kausik Chanda verbally ordered during the hearing.

The principal secretary of higher education department, West Bengal was asked to be present in the courtroom today to apprise the court of the state’s position on the matter. “Until then, no further steps in the admission process, including counselling, shall be undertaken by the respondents,” the court order shared with Careers360 by the board chief Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee said.

The HC was both surprised and concerned by the actions of the state, which appear to violate the court’s order from last year regarding the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota, especially when the Supreme Court has not granted any stay on that order.

Senior advocate Bandopadhyay informed the court that no further action will be taken in the WBJEE admission process that goes against the May 21, 2025 order wherein a single judge bench prohibited the board from any further steps, until the division bench decides on the stay application filed against the order.

In a dramatic turn of events, the judge initiated the legal action for contempt after receiving a mail from a set of WBJEE candidates against the state and the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB).

The board was ready to declare the WBJEE 2025 results of thousands of engineering aspirants after the Supreme Court stayed the Calcutta HC order staying the implementation of a revised list of OBCs notified by the state government. A single bench of the HC put an interim stay on notifications issued by the West Bengal government with regard to reservations to 140 sub-sections under OBC-A and OBC-B categories. The state had prepared the new list after the high court rejected the inclusion of as many as 77 communities in the OBC list.
