Delhi government announces holiday to commemorate the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur.
Schools in Delhi are expected to shut tomorrow as the government has decided to observe November 25 as a holiday to commemorate the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. Chief minister Rekha Gupta made the announcement on social media. However, district administrations are yet to release an official order.
“The Delhi Government has decided to declare 25 November 2025 as Holiday to commemorate the sacred occasion of the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. May Guru Sahib’s timeless message of courage, compassion, and freedom of faith continue to guide and inspire us in our collective journey ahead,” the BJP leader said in a post on X.
The government has already directed all schools and colleges to postpone physical competitions and other sports events due to the severe air quality. The Directorate of Education and Sports asked all the institutions including aided and private schools, as well as those run by the MCD, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board, to comply with CAQM's advisory.
Delhi school closure
A group of school students had approached the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to postpone the tournaments and trials for outdoor sports during the peak pollution months of November to January.
As the Centre called for anti-pollution measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 3 in Delhi-NCR after the Air Quality Index (AQI) rose to “severe” category, the government had asked schools to shift to hybrid mode for classes up to 5th.
