WHO enlists SRM epidemiologist in fight against COVID-19

NEW DELHI: The World Health Organization (WHO) has nominated Rajan Patil, a faculty member at SRM Institute of Science and Technology in its fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Rajan Patil is an epidemiologist and public health expert.
He is currently serving as an epidemiologist and infectious disease surveillance expert as part of the Global Outbreak Alert & Response Network (GOARN) of WHO.
GOARN was established by WHO to engage the technical resources of international organizations besides the UN for rapid identification, confirmation and response to public health emergencies of international importance. It aims to deliver rapid and effective support to prevent and control infectious diseases outbreaks and public health emergencies.
Currently, Patil is posted in Nepal, but may soon be deputed by WHO in any country based on emergency needs.
