The UP assistant professor recruitment exam will be held on April 18 and 19 after postponement due to paper leak and irregularities.
The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, has announced the exam dates for UP Teacher Eligibility Test (UP TET 2026) along with the recruitment exams scheduled in the first half of 2026 for assistant professor, PGT, and TGT.
In August last year, the newly appointed chairman and former Director General of Police (DGP), Prashant Kumar announced that the UP TET exam will be held on January 29 and 30. However, it was postponed due to administrative and technical reasons.
The UP teacher eligibility test will now be administered on July 2, 3, and 4.
Notably, the UP TET was last conducted on January 23, 2022. The prolonged delay and consequent postponement drew criticism from nearly 15 lakh candidates who have been preparing for the state teacher eligibility test for the past several months.
Last year, the Supreme Court mandated TET eligibility for teachers, including those in service, for continuing their employment.
As per the UPESSC exam calendar 2026, the assistant professor recruitment exam will be conducted on April 18 and 19. The UP PGT recruitment exam is scheduled to be held for May 9 and 10, while the TGT recruitment exam will be conducted on June 3 and 4.
The commission clarified that the assistant professor exam originally held on April 16 and 17, and whose results were declared on September 4 was cancelled due to paper leak, irregularities, and three arrests.
The exam will now be reconducted as per the revised dates with additional security arrangements to ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process. The subject-wise schedule, exam centres, admit card details will be notified soon.
