UPPRPB says sacred thread, mangalsutra and other cultural items will not be removed; disciplinary action promised for violations
The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) said that strict guidelines are in place to ensure that religious and cultural symbols worn by candidates are respected during frisking at examination centres.
In an announcement, the Controller of Examinations said candidates appearing in UP police recruitment exams are not required to remove religious items such as the sacred thread or mangalsutra during security checks. The board clarified that detailed instructions regarding this have already been issued and police personnel deployed at exam centres are briefed accordingly before every examination.
Calling occurance of such incidents “unfortunate and objectionable,” the board said disciplinary action will be taken against any personnel found violating the guidelines.
