UGC, NMC instruct all institutes to observe anti-ragging week from August 12-18 from this year

‘Say no to ragging’: UGC suggests universities to show films in ragging uploaded on the UGC official website to the students and faculty.
NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked all medical colleges to observe anti-ragging week from August 12 to 18 as instructed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). “These regulations are mandatory and all institutions are required to take necessary steps for the implementation,” the commission said.
Films in ragging have been uploaded on the UGC official website for the use of higher educational institutions (HEIs).
“UGC has decided that from this year Anti Ragging Day would be observed on August 12 followed by Anti Ragging Week from 12th August to 18th August. This initiative is one of the tools of the Commission in increasing awareness against ragging,” the circular read.

The commission further suggested some activities to be adopted by the institution during the anti-ragging week. The activities to be organised by the institutions are as follows.
- The universities were instructed to conduct orientation programmes on anti-ragging.
- Conduct various competitions such as slogan and essay writing. poster making, and logo designing on anti-ragging and distributing certificates to encourage the students, faculty, non-teaching staff to promote anti-ragging.
- Events like anti-ragging workshops, seminars and other creative avenues to spread the idea.
- Short films and documentary movies may be shown to students and faculty, including the ones that’s available on the official websites, ugc.ac.in and antiragging.in.
The UGC has instructed colleges to share the week-long activities with the students and details of the celebrations on the official website, antiragging.in.
