UGC chairman to be appointed AICTE chairman temporarily

The decision to appoint UGC Chairman as interim head came as the incumbent AICTE Anil D Sahasrabudhe will be relieved of duties on September 1, 2022.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman M Jagadesh Kumar will be appointed as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman temporarily, the ministry of education said. The decision to appoint UGC Chairman as interim head was taken by the education ministry as the incumbent AICTE Anil D Sahasrabudhe will be relieved of duties on September 1, 2022.
“Consequent upon attaining the age of 65 years, Professor Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairman. AICTE shall be relieved of his duties as Chairman, AICTE with effect from 01.09.2022,” the ministry of education said.
“While the appointment of a regular Chairman, AICTE is under process, approval of Education Minister is conveyed to entrust the additional charge of Chairman, AICTE temporarily to Professor M Jagadesh Kumar. Chairman, University Grants Commission till the appointment of a regular Chairman, AICTE or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” it said.

M Jagadesh Kumar was appointed as the UGC chairman on February 4, 2022. Before this, he served as Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vice-Chancellor.
Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe, professor of mechanical engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati joined AICTE as Chairman on July 17, 2015.
