UGC asks higher education institutions to observe ‘Cyber Jagrookta Diwas’ every month

University Grants Commission has asked HEIs to conduct seminars, workshops, interactive and creative sessions to make students aware to prevent cyber crimes.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked the colleges, universities and other higher educational institutions to observe ‘Cyber Jagrookta (Awareness) Diwas’ every month to spread awareness amongst students to deal with cyber crimes.

UGC has requested the HEIs to organise seminars, workshops, interactive sessions and creative sessions such as poster making, slogan writing, short story writing etc. as a part of the initiative to make students aware to prevent cyber crime.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs is implementing a scheme called the ‘Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre’ to deal with cyber crimes in a coordinated and comprehensive manner. The Ministry has developed a ‘National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal’ for ease of filing complaints related to cyber crimes by citizens on ‘anytime, anywhere’ basis,” UGC said in a statement.

The list of suggestive topics along with the write up on 'Cyber Jaagrookta Diwas' has been attached as annexure-I, the UGC statement said.
The state governments will provide the budgets for the same, the statement added.
UGC further said that an annual action plan can be prepared for conducting the activities under ‘Cyber Jagrookta Diwas’ on the first Wednesday of every month for one hour from 11am onwards in online mode (due to pandemic situation).

In other news, recently, UGC allowed three more universities to offer full-fledged online degree programmes in addition to the 49 universities approved so far.
Vignan’s foundation for Science, Technology and Research, Andhra Pradesh, Lovely Professional University, Punjab and Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Higher Education, Tamil Nadu are the three universities added to the updated list.
