UGC approves four more universities to offer online degree programmes

Symbiosis International, Vellore Institute of Technology, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha are among the universities added to the list.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved four more universities to offer full-fledged online degree programmes. Symbiosis International, Maharashtra, Vellore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Higher Education are deemed to be universities added to the updated list.
Symbiosis International, Maharashtra, will be offering an online course in BA Computer Application. While the UGC has approved 9 online programmes of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha.

Vellore Insitute of Technology (VIT Vellore) will be offering MA in Science (Data Science) online programme. Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Higher Education, Tamil Nadu on the other hand will offer MA in Business Administration and BA in Computer Applications.
The UGC in its latest notification said, “Duration of the programmes shall be as per UGC notification on Specification of Degrees and its Amendments. The list shall be updated from time to time, as required.”
The online programmes in these universities will begin from January 2022.

The commission had earlier said, “The universities can offer these programmes as long as they comply with the NAAC or NIRF ranking requirements as per UGC regulations, and if not, they can discontinue the programmes and inform the UGC accordingly.”
