Train health professionals to combat COVID-19: NMC to medical colleges

The NMC secretary asked the medical colleges to coordinate for conducting the training and building up the infrastructure before August 31.
NEW DELHI: To mitigate any further surge of COVID-19, the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued an advisory to all medical colleges to ensure the training of all health professionals, including doctors, nurses and other clinical staff.
The NMC has asked the medical colleges to establish a robust training framework across the country. “More than 120 lessons across 22 modules have been identified by the NMC for the training and several of these modules are clinical in nature and need onsite training,” the NMC said.
All health professionals much undergo training and certification on these clinical topics, to ensure patient safety at all times, it said.
The commission also recommended that the skill laboratories of all medical colleges be utilized for the training.
The NMC secretary further requested all states, union territories (UTs), medical colleges to nominate the relevant master trainers for the training to be conducted at the state/ UT level. It further asked the medical colleges to coordinate for conducting the training and building up the infrastructure before August 31.

The training of trainers for the clinical courses will be conducted by AIIMS faculty and the schedule will be shared with all states and UTs. It will also be available on the official website - nmc.org.in.
Potential trainers can be retired doctors and specialists or available doctors with extensive experience, Critical Care Nurse practitioners, Respiratory therapists and Physiotherapists with adequate experience in handling critical equipment.
