TISS Mumbai appoints social historian Badri Narayan Tiwari vice-chancellor

TISS Mumbai: Tiwari has been appointed VC for 5 years, until further orders, at a pay scale of Rs 2,10,000 plus Rs 11,250 as special allowance.
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai has appointed Badri Narayan Tiwari as vice chancellor. Tiwari has been appointed as TISS VC for five years, until further notice, at a pay scale of Rs 2,10,000 plus Rs 11,250 as special allowance.
A social historian, Tiwari was previously the director of Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute, Prayagraj. The appointment was approved by the Cabinet, Ministry of Education.
Tiwari completed his master's in modern history from the University of Allahabad and qualified Junior Research Fellowship National Eligibility Test (JRF -NET) in 1988. He completed his Phd from the Allahabad University in 1993.
According to GB Pant's curriculum vitae, he has been recognized as a fellow of the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, Paris, and also received the Fulbright Senior Fellowship and the Smuts Fellowship, University of Cambridge (2007). Tiwari visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) , Delhi as a faculty member for the Social Exclusion and Discrimination programmme. He also visited the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, for a two-year residential fellowship from 1998 to 1999.
Recently, TISS Mumbai removed its pro VC for alleged financial misappropriation. The decision came after a complaint was received from the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). TISS also said the prov VC post will no longer be needed after this. With inputs from PTI
