The Telangana NEET UG 2025 counselling was put on hold after the legal validity of the 4-year domicile rule was challenged in the Supreme Court. Around 43,400 candidates have been awaiting for the MBBS admissions under 85% state quota .
In an effort to ensure fair chances for local students, the state government introduced the residency rule last year. According to which, candidates should have studied or resided in Telangana for at least four consecutive years, up to Class 12, before appearing for the NEET exam, to be eligible for domicile reservation.
The Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran observed that in the absence of a statutory definition of ‘residence’, the high court’s direction would create ambiguity. In such cases, the domicile quota becomes “unworkable”, it said, while upholding the new reservation rules.
As per the latest update, the KNRUHS said students who studied outside Telangana during the mandatory four consecutive academic years will be eligible under the following categories:
- Children of Telangana government employees posted outside the state.
- Children of serving or retired employees belonging to IAS, IFS, IPS outside Telangana.
- Children of defence personnel, ex-servicemen, Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) service, who at the time of joining, have declared their hometown as Telangana.
- Children of employees of a corporation, agency, public sector who are liable to be transferred anywhere in India and who have served or serving outside Telangana.
Candidates who have studied outside the state in the last four years, but are eligible for admission based on these four categories are required to get their parental employment certificate verification in person from KNRUHS Warangal .
Telangana domicile rule 2025: Documents required
The document verification will be conducted from 10 am on September 9 to 5 pm on September 11 for both competent and management quotas. Candidates are required to carry the following set of documents for verification.
- Certificate of employment from the competent authority for the candidate's father/ mother's service outside the state for the period corresponding to the candidate's year/s of study outside Telangana.
- Printout of filled in application form of registration.
