National Teachers Day 2023: The theme for Teacher’s Day this year is “Teachers at the Heart of education recovery”.
NEW DELHI: National Teachers Day 2023 will be celebrated across the country today, September 5. The day is celebrated to mark the the contribution of teachers in building the society. On Teachers Day 2023, students all over the country pay respect to their teachers.
Schools, colleges and all educational institutions organise special programs to celebrate Teachers Day. It is a reminder of the huge role that teachers play in nation-building by guiding and educating the minds of our country.

Teachers Day 2023: History and significance
The birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is celebrated as Teachers' Day or Shikshak Diwas in India. Born on September 5, 1888, Dr Radhakrishnan was second President and the first Vice President of India.
He was also a scholar, philosopher, and Bharat Ratna awardee. A few students asked Dr Radhakrishnan to let them celebrate his birthday after he was elected President of India in 1962. To which, Dr Radhakrishnan suggested that they celebrate it as Teachers' Day instead to recognise the contribution of teachers to the society. Since then, September 5 has been announced as Teachers' Day in India.
Teachers' Day acknowledges the fact that teachers are are the backbone of our nation and prepare the younger generation for a brighter future. Teachers' Day is a perfect opportunity to let your teachers know their impact on your life, remind them how they inspired you to do well in life.
Teachers Day 2023: Theme
The theme for Teacher’s Day 2023 is “Teachers at the Heart of education recovery”. President Droupadi Murmu will confer National Awards to Teachers 2023 to 75 teachers across the country at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Schools celebrate the day by organising various activities like speech, essay writing, dance, etc. Cultural programs are also organized in educational institutions to celebrate Teachers’ Day.
