NEW DELHI: Teachers’ Day 2022 is celebrated on September 5 every year to appreciate the contribution and to celebrate the importance of teachers in our lives. Though different countries celebrate teachers day on different days, in India, the day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on September 5, 1888, was India’s first Vice-President and second President. September 5 is observed as Teachers’ Day in India since 1962 after his friends requested him to celebrate his birthday. However, it was Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who asked them to observe September 5 as teachers’ day.
Many countries celebrate Teachers' Day on October 5 along with World Teachers' Day, which was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994.
