‘Stop re-NEET’: Medical aspirants start online petition to prevent retest

NEW DELHI: Medical aspirants have started an online petition to stop re-test for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2024 contrary to the demands of many, citing that it will cause mental harassment to the ‘genuine’ hardworking students. 36 candidates have signed the petition on the website, change.org, so far. Following the NEET result 2024 controversy over paper leak allegations, implementation of grace marks by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and alleged error in results, several aspirants demanded cancellation of the exam held on May 5 and sought a re-exam .

The online petition started by Shivani Nimbalkar said that in case the entrance exam is conducted again, it will not only negate the candidates’ ‘tireless’ efforts but also impose a huge mental and emotional burden on them. “We have dedicated two years of our lives to rigorous preparation, sacrificing personal time and enduring significant stress,” she said in the petition.

The aspirant listed down the following reasons as to why it is unfair to ask candidates to retake test:

• It undermines the hard work of diligent students who have already proven their capabilities.
• Preparing for the NEET exam is an exhaustive and long process. It is practically impossible to regain the same momentum and focus after a gap.
• The additional mental and emotional stress can lead to severe anxiety and depression.
• Valuable time that could be spent on further education, career or personal development will be lost.
• Resources such as money spent on coaching classes, study materials, and other preparations will go to waste.
• The hard-working students should not bear the consequences of systemic issues.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court sought NTA’s response on irregularities in NEET 2024 result and paper leak reports after hearing a petition filed by 10 aspirants.

The testing agency had denied any irregularities and paper leaks in NEET 2024 and clarified that grace marks were given to compensate for the loss of time.
