The PSEB has collected Rs 1,100 each from students as exam fees, totalling Rs 38.75 crore from Class 10 students and Rs 55.51 crore from Class 12. In total, the Punjab Board received Rs 94 crore for the board exam that it never conducted due to Covid-19 pandemic, according to The Tribune .
“A majority of students belong to underprivileged sections. The move clearly shows that the government is insidiously making education unaffordable for them,” the report quotes DTF president Vikarm Dev.
The teachers association also urged the board to refund the exam fee. However, PSEB Chairman Yograj said “All preparation to conduct the exam and question papers were printed. But was not held due to Covid-19,” the chairman told the news portal.

Defending the board’s decision to collect exam fee, he further said that the soft copy of PSEB Class 10, 12 marksheet is available on Digilocker for free. The hard copy is not mandatory and hence the board is charging Rs 800, the report added.
“Rs 94 crore fee for Punjab school education board exams that never held! Fee must be refunded to the students and provide hard copy of certificate free of cost,” the DTF tweeted.
