NMC withdraws guidelines under Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023 on MBBS admissions

National Medical Commission has withdrawn new guidelines on CBME curriculum, admission of disabled students, format for info by medical colleges in GMER 2023.
NEW DELHI : The National Medical Commission (NMC) has withdrawn the recently issued guidelines under the Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023 for MBBS admissions. In an official notice, the commission said that the guidelines have been “withdrawn and cancelled with immediate effect” with approval of the Under Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB).
“It is informed that the Circular of even number dated 12.06.2023 thereby issuing Guidelines under Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023, stands "WITHDRAWN AND CANCELLED" with immediate effect. This issues with the approval of Competent Authority in UGMEB,” NMC said in the official notice.

On June 12, the commission had issued the guidelines on MBBS course which included the new rules on Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum, recruitment of manpower for research facilities in a medical college, family adoption programme, admission of students under disabled category, and format for submission of information of admissions in medical colleges.
According to the then notice, all previous notifications had been declared void and superseded by the new GMER guidelines . “These new guidelines shall be applicable to all the admission made in MBBS course in a medical college in the academic year 2023-24,” the notice had said.

As part of the new guidelines, NMC had initially changed the minimum age criteria for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) aspirants and fixed January 31 of the year of admission as the cut-off date for completion of 17 years instead of December 31. Later, the commission revised the age criteria and set the cut-off date to December 31 only.
Moreover, the commission had asked the medical colleges and universities to complete MBBS admissions before August 30. The medical regulations had also said that the National Exit Test (NExT) exam which will replace NEET PG will be conducted in December and January of every year.
