Earlier in October, the commission had sought details from medical colleges on number of medical students who died by suicide, left colleges in the last five years along with details on the working hours and weekly off given to them.
NMC formed an anti-ragging cell with Dr Aruna V Vanikar, president of Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) to address the issues of ragging in medical institutes across the country. The Commission said that while all cases of suicide or suicidal tendency among students are not linked to ragging, most of them do.
The commission had informed that the anti-ragging committee has taken a serious view on the increasing incidents of ragging and its consequences leading to suicidal tendency among the medical students. In order to facilitate the medical students to lodge the complaints with the NMC also in addition to the concerned colleges, institutes, an email ID has been created as – antiragging@nmc.org.in.
