NMC issues show-cause notices to 198 medical colleges for not providing stipend data

115 government medical colleges and 83 private colleges have not submitted data on stipend amount given to UG, PG interns and senior residents.
NEW DELHI : The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued show-cause notices to medical colleges for not submitting the details of stipends provided to the undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. The medical colleges have been directed to furnish the data for the financial year 2023-24 within three days of the notice.
According to the report, 115 government medical colleges and 83 private colleges have not submitted the information related to the payment of stipend to undergraduate interns, senior residents, and PG students in super-specialty courses.
“The failure of these medical colleges in submitting the information reg. payment of stipend to the interns / residents is considered seriously, and the medical colleges as per the attached list who have not submitted the requisite information, are hereby directed to show cause as to why penal action should not be taken against them for their failure to submit the information / details of stipend paid,” said NMC in an official notice.
The Supreme Court had directed the NMC to submit details of stipends paid to medical interns and residents. In compliance with these orders, all health institutions and medical colleges were instructed to provide details of stipends paid to UG interns, PG residents, and senior residents or PGs in super specialty for the financial year 2023-24, as per annexure-1, to the email ID stipend23-24@nmc.org.in.

For the financial year 2024-25 and beyond, the commission had directed medical colleges and institutions to upload stipend details on their respective websites and update them monthly (by the 5th of each month). At the end of the financial year, a complete statement of stipend details was to be submitted to the NMC.
