NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission's (NMC) anti-ragging cell has formed a national task force on the mental health and well-being of medical students. The task force is conducting an online survey of both medical students and faculty across medical colleges in India.
The task force has prepared a series of questions using a google form and encouraged all medical students and faculty members to take part in the survey. The deadline to submit the survey response is May 3, 2024.
The participants' identities will be strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to any third party. The information will solely be utilized by the task force for analysis and recommendations within its report.
FMGs urge NMC for non-teaching internships
In addition to the news about the NMC survey, Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) have appealed to the National Medical Commission (NMC) to permit internship programs at non-teaching hospitals, aiming to accommodate more qualified FMGs. The graduates' association highlighted various challenges encountered by FMGs, such as the extension of the internship period from two to three years and delays in initiation by the State Medical Councils (SMCs).
“I urge the National Medical Commission to consider this proposal and take decisive action to address the plight of foreign medical graduates. Your support in this matter is crucial for the future of many aspiring medical professionals and the overall well-being of our healthcare system,” AFA requested.
The association also suggested incorporating non-teaching hospitals as recognized venues for completing internship programs for FMGE candidates.
