NMC asks medical colleges to provide action plan implemented for antimicrobial resistance

Health Ministry has developed a National Action Plan to be launched across the country to bring about an alignment with the Global Action Plan on AMR.
NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) warned medical students and colleges against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which has been recognised as a serious and growing threat to public health globally. The commission has requested medical colleges to provide details of the actions taken by the institute by February 28.
In the latest notice, the NMC said, “The ministry of health and family welfare has developed the National Action Plan which has to be launched across the country so as to bring about an alignment with the Global Action Plan on AMR with a ‘One Health’ approach.”

“India is among the nations with one of the highest-burden of bacterial infection. The crude mortality from infectious diseases is very high,” it said.
The commission also proposed the institutes nominate one nodal officer, preferably at the level of professor, additional professor, assistant professor from any of the departments of microbiology, pharmacology, medicine or community medicine for future interaction on the subject.
Along with the notice, the NMC has also issued instructions for medical colleges to fill Google form. It has provided the format for sharing details on plans implemented to improve awareness and understanding of AMR among undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) students, teaching professionals and allied health professionals.

“Developed any AMR module to bring together the segmented knowledge imparted under different subjects. Microbiology, Pharmacology, Medicine, Community Medicine (PSM). Module document to be uploaded in format (Ms Word, Ms Excel or PDF).” it added.
