Bagisha Tiwari, who lived on the fifth floor of the multi-storey building with her mother and brother, reportedly committed suicide on June 5. She was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to her injuries an hour later, police added.
Tiwari, hailing from the Reva district in Madhya Pradesh, had been preparing for the NEET UG exam at a coaching institute in Kota. Her brother, a 12th-grade student, is also preparing for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), according to Circle Inspector (CI) Harinarayan Sharma of Jawahar Nagar Police Station.
The National Testing Agency declared the results of the medical entrance exam on June 4. This incident marks the tenth suspected suicide by a student in Kota, the country's coaching hub, since January this year. Last year, 26 suspected suicide cases among coaching students were reported, the highest in recent years.
CI Sharma stated that Tiwari jumped from the ninth-floor balcony. A woman, who saw her attempting the act, tried to intervene but was unable to stop her. Family members and others immediately took Tiwari to a nearby private hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries after an hour of treatment.
The body has been kept in the mortuary of Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital for post-mortem, which will be conducted after the arrival of Tiwari's father, who has been informed about the incident.
Initial inquiries revealed that Tiwari had appeared for the NEET-UG exam, but the reason behind her extreme step is yet to be ascertained, Sharma added.
