NEET PG Counselling 2024: MCC allows 1,904 candidates to convert to NRI category so far

Try NowNEW DELHI: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has allowed 819 candidates to change their nationality from Indian to Non-Resident Indian (NRI) for round 3 NEET PG Counselling 2024. In total, 1,904 candidates have been permitted to bag the NRI quota seats so far.
The MCC NEET PG counselling allotment results for round 3 will be declared on January 21 at the official website, mcc.nic.in, as per the revised schedule.
A total of 24,314 vacancies were notified for the round 3 counselling, of which, there are 15,902 virtual vacancies and 8,313 clear vacancies. Additionally, 99 seats were added. However, later the MCC removed 23 seats and added 12 more seats, as per the revised seat matrix.
The choice filling and locking period was extended in view of the reduction in NEET PG cut-off percentile.
NEET PG Counselling: What is NRI quota policy?
Indian nationals wanting to get converted to the sponsored NRI category will be allowed to do so for NEET PG counselling provided they fulfill the eligibility criteria. According to the medical admission policy, 15% seats have to be allotted for NRI candidates in respect of PG medical and dental seats in deemed universities.
Those candidates claiming that the sponsor is an NRI and is willing to pay the entire course of the candidate will have to submit the required documents and certificate during the admission process to avail the reservation. “There will be no reservation for OBC, SC, ST, PwD, EWS candidates in deemed universities” in such cases. Candidates will have to submit embassy and sponsor certificates during the admission process.
Seats for NRI, Jain minority, Muslim minority will be converted to deemed university merit seats for UR category after exhaustion of all the eligible candidates for the quota during the third round, the MCC said.

1,904 ‘convert’ to NRI category
As per the latest notification, a total of 819 candidates have been allowed to convert their quote to NRI. Of the total 1,904 candidates who have been considered for NRI quota, a majority of the conversion took place in round 3, while in round one and two, 953 and 132 candidates were allowed to avail admission under NRI quota.
The MCC had uploaded two NRI lists during round 1 NEET PG Counselling. In the first list, 678 candidates were featured and the second list saw 275. The conversion window was reopened with regard to the Supreme Court order that allowed OCI card holders to be treated at par with Indian citizens and will be eligible for UR (General) category seats as well as NRI seats for NEET PG counselling.
“This NRI business is nothing but a fraud . We will put an end to all this,” the Supreme Court bench of former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said.
