Maharashtra MBA Admissions 2020: Bombay HC allows admission on ATMA, XAT, MAT, GMAT scores

Try NowNEW DELHI - Bombay High Court has stayed the implementation of a Maharashtra government Circular that declared the scores of ATMA, MAT, XAT and GMAT scores will not be valid eligibility criteria for admissions to the MBA and MMS courses, from the academic year 2020-2021.
The Circular stated, “Only those candidates who have appeared for the Maharashtra common entrance test (CET), GMAT and CAT examinations (collectively “the MSCET”) shall only be considered eligible.”
Three students petitioned the High Court against the enforcement of the state circular on grounds of right to equality.
According to the MAH CET MBA eligibility criteria, only those candidates were to be offered admission who qualify the MAH CET MBA 2020 exam which was conducted on March 14 and 15.

The Bombay HC in its order dated December 11, 2020, has directed the Maharashtra government that they should take into account the scores of ATMA , MAT, XAT and GMAT scores while offering admission to various B-schools to three of the petitioners.
The bench comprising Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni issued an order that stated: “The respondents are directed to consider the petitioners’ eligibility for admission on the basis of ATMA, XAT, MAT, GMAT examinations for the admission process being undertaken for the current academic year 2020-21.”
The HC also said that the action taken by the state government is “abrupt and arbitrary and violative of the petitioners’ rights under Article 14 of the Constitution”.
The high court held that the circular “may operate from the next academic year 2021-22.”
About MAH CET MBA 2020
The MAH CET MBA 2021 exam was conducted in computer-based on March 14 and 15 and due to COVID-19, there was a delay in the announcement of the result as well as the counselling process. The MAH CET MBA result was announced on May 23 and the counselling began from December 8.
