Recognition by SMC to take effect from February 1, 2026, and MBBS graduates are now eligible for registration in Singapore.
The Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, a constituent institution of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), has been recognised as one of the eight foreign medical colleges newly accredited by the Singapore government. The recognition, granted by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC), will come into effect from February 1, 2026.
With this accreditation, KMC Manipal joins a top-tier list of approximately 120 world-renowned medical schools from countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Ireland, Malaysia, and China.
“Students enrolling at KMC Manipal from 2026 onwards can be assured that their MBBS degree will be recognised for medical registration in Singapore,” the KMC press release said.
“Regardless of nationality or the year of graduation, all KMC Manipal graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the SMC, subject to fulfilling the regulatory and supervisory requirements,” the press release added.
KMC Manipal gets SMC nod
“To ensure that they meet standards comparable to Singapore's medical schools, the SMC periodically reviews overseas medical qualifications, evaluating factors such as academic standards, clinical exposure, language of instruction, and the professional performance of graduates,” the KMC press release stated.
“This accreditation from the Singapore Medical Council reflects the institution's long-standing commitment to excellence in education and carries forward the visionary legacy of its founder, TMA Pai,” MAHE Pro Chancellor HS Ballal said.
Vice Chancellor Lt Gen MD Venkatesh (Retd.) described this accreditation as a proud moment for MAHE . He said it reinforces KMC Manipal's academic strength and medical training, and enhances global opportunities for its graduates.
“KMC Manipal, being the only Indian medical school featured among the newly accredited educational institutions, highlights its strong academic framework and further solidifies its position as a globally reputable medical institution,” Pro Vice Chancellor (Health Sciences) Sharath Rao said.
