Kashmir schools, colleges shut, university exams postponed as protests rock UT over Ayatollah Khamenei killing
All educational institutes in Kashmir will remain closed for two days with KU, CUK, IUST postponing exams; JKBOSE papers to proceed as scheduled
Following the killing of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei, Kashmir witnessed huge protests on Sunday and shutdown calls today, leading to widespread disruption across the Valley, with state education minister Sakina Itoo announcing closures of all schools, colleges, and universities across Kashmir for next two days.
Several higher educational institutions subsequently issued separate notifications postponing examinations and suspending classwork as a precautionary measure.
The University of Kashmir postponed all examinations scheduled for March 2 and announced that classwork would remain suspended across all its campuses. The university also deferred all recruitment interviews scheduled in the coming days. The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) suspended classwork for March 2 and 3.
Cluster University of Srinagar also postponed all examinations slated for March 2. The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) also deferred examinations scheduled for tomorrow and suspended classwork. Islamia College Srinagar postponed examinations scheduled for March 2, 3, and 4, while Government Degree College (GDC) Baramulla deferred its examinations planned for March 2.
The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) postponed driving tests scheduled for tomorrow as well.
JKBOSE 2026: Jammu exams as per schedule
The officials clarified that in the Jammu division, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) examinations will be conducted as per schedule, and schools will remain open.
JKBOSE is currently conducting the annual examinations for the summer zone in the Jammu division for classes 10, 11, and 12. As per the notified schedule, the class 10 social science paper is slated to be held today.
