Karnataka to complete recruitment of 11,000 teachers by next academic year: School education minister

Karnataka: The shortage of teachers has been compensated by recruiting 40,000 guest teachers in primary schools and 11,000 in high schools for the academic year 2025-26.
The Karnataka government will complete the recruitment of 11,000 teachers by the next academic year, the school education minister Madhu Bangarappa said during the Belagavi winter session of the Legislative Assembly.
Responding to a question by MLA Harish Poonja, the minister said that the state has 41,088 government primary schools with 1,78,935 sanctioned teaching posts, of which 1,33,345 posts have been filled.
At present, 45,590 teachers posts remain vacant and steps have been already taken to recruit teachers in a phased manner.
Karnataka also has 5,024 government high schools in the state, with 44,144 sanctioned posts, out of which, 32,010 posts have been filled and 12,134 posts are vacant. The shortage of teachers has been compensated by recruiting 40,000 guest teachers in primary schools and 11,000 in high schools for the academic year 2025-26.

As per the data provided by the minister, 51,000 guest teachers have been recruited to prevent disruption in education caused by the teacher shortage. Special teachers have also been appointed to provide guidance to students with disabilities.
Under the Vidya Vikas Yojana, the Karnataka government has released Rs 83.07 crore for all government school children from classes 1 to 10, while Rs 89.66 crore is earmarked for the second set of uniforms, the school education minister said.
Hot milk, mixed ragi malt, and eggs or bananas are being distributed free of charge to government and govt-aided primary and high school children in the state for 5 days a week in the morning, along with hot lunch for 6 days a week.
