JEE Main 2025 question paper will comprise three sections – physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Though students are advised to focus on each section, they might need to prepare for the mathematics portion smartly in order to face the challenges skillfully during the exam, given session 1 students’ experience.
As per the revised JEE Main exam pattern 2025, the mathematics subject will be divided into two sections – section a containing 20 questions and section b including five questions. Students must remember that there are no more optional questions in section b and all five questions are compulsory. This subject will carry 100 marks.
JEE Main 2025: Tips to tackle mathematics
Here’s an amalgamation of experience and knowledge shared by various coaching experts on the subject to help aspirants achieve high marks in JEE Main maths 2025 .
- Coaching experts suggest focussing on high-weightage topics like calculus, coordinate geometry, algebra, and vectors. Rote learning will not work in this section, therefore, try understanding the concepts.
- Solve as many JEE Main previous years’ question papers and mock tests as you can as they will help you understand the pattern of the exam and improve speed and accuracy. Set a timer while solving papers and try to complete the test in 2.5 hours to save time for revision. Also, prioritise accuracy over speed as accuracy helps in scoring.
- What you do need to memorize are standard values and formulas. Keep a formula sheet and revise it regularly. Also, learn shortcuts for repetitive calculations but use them only when you completely understand the logic behind them.
- Coaching experts recommend allotting 80 minutes for 18 to 20 questions in the mathematics section. During the exam, attempt easy and moderate questions first, leaving time-consuming ones for later.
- During JEE Main preparation, allocate more time to subjects or topics you find challenging, but don’t ignore your strengths. For example, devote two hours to Mathematics. Some also suggest studying in focused 25-minute sessions followed by a 5-minute break. After four cycles, take a longer 15-minute break. This method boosts concentration and prevents burnout.
