JEE Advanced 2020: IIT Delhi launches B.Tech in Materials Engineering

Download NowNEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has launched a new undergraduate programme, BTech programme in Materials Engineering. The materials science and engineering department of the institute will be offering this programme with 40 seats on offer this year.
Students qualifying JEE Advanced 2020 and will be eligible for the new programme. This undergraduate programme focuses on producing next-generation technology leaders for core industrial sectors, academia and entrepreneurship.
Speaking of the new programme, Josemon Jacob, head of the department said: “The development, selection and processing of materials are central to any engineering advancement. The UG programme in Materials Engineering is designed to equip the students with the necessary knowledge and skills to cater to all industrial sectors that require knowledge in material design and engineering to meet the growing industry as well as the academic demands of our country.”
According to Jacob, graduates of this programme will be poised to enter the aerospace, manufacturing, defence, oil and gas, automotive and petrochemicals industries.
As per the statement issued by the institute, the BTech course curriculum has been designed to lay a core foundation with a wide basket of electives in materials engineering, which would be ideally suited for those interested students in exploring opportunities in both basic sciences and engineering, or a combination of the two.
“The courses covered include the relationships between structure and properties in various classes of materials including metals, polymers, electronic materials, and biomaterials. Concepts learned in the programme can be used to quantify the essential properties of engineering materials and guide the design of new materials for structural and functional applications,” says the statement by IIT Delhi.
