IIT Roorkee, Uttarakhand Police jointly organise Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon 2022

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), iHUB DivyaSampark, in collaboration with Uttarakhand Police, is organising the 'Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon 2022'. The second edition of this hackathon aims to generate technology-based solutions for SMART policing per the vision of thePrime Minister Narendra Modi. This 4-day hackathon was inaugurated today.

A large number of contestants from all over India reached IIT Roorkee to participate in the hackathon. 810 teams had registered for the hackathon including 1700 students. Out of the total registered, only 40 teams reached the grand finale at IIT Roorkee. Guests from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), central agencies, and state police joined the event.

Amit Sinha, IPS, ADG, Uttarakhand Police, said, “the teams should focus on the solution of the problem statement. The solution can be of only two types, a new solution or an affordable solution. So, teams should present the solution so Uttarakhand police can implement it."

Professor Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, highlighted, “As a country, we have now recognised the importance of technology for solving real-life problems. As more hackathons are conducted, we as a society are growing wiser in conducting them. The experience of the working generation needs to be used in tandem with the younger generation as the younger generation is more aware of newer technologies and can adapt at a faster pace. The senior police officials here have put in a lot of effort in framing this Hackathon's problem statements so that they are inspired from real situations.”

Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj S, DIG, STF/P&M, Uttarakhand police, presented his thoughts on the police team’s expectations from the hackathon participants. He also mentioned the three pillars, affordability, accessibility, and adaptability of the solutions developed in the hackathon.
