IIT Madras, NIS Chennai to collaborate on teaching, research, exchange of faculty

IIT Madras and NIS will jointly organise seminars, workshops, webinars, conferences, continuing education programmes and develop academic programmes.
NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is collaborating with the National Institute of Siddha (NIS) on training, research and clinical studies for the development of collaborative teaching programmes, research and exchange of faculty members. An agreement was signed between IIT Madras and NIS in this regard by IITM director V Kamakoti and NIS director R Meenakumari in the presence of Ravindra Gettu, IIT Madras.
Under the collaboration, both IIT Madras and NIS will jointly organise seminars, workshops, webinars, conferences, continuing education programmes and develop academic programmes. The institutes will also promote the exchange of students, research scholars and faculty, said a statement from IIT Madras. "Siddha is a very important school of Indian Medicine. This collaboration will focus on establishing a scientific basis that explains the efficacy of Siddha medicines,” said Kamakoti.

"National Institute of Siddha is glad to sign MoU with IITM, a premium institute of the nation. We hope that the collaboration will open new avenues for knowledge sharing about the tremendous therapeutic potential of available Siddha medicine and the application of cutting-edge technology of IITM in scientific validation of Siddha formulations, identification of its bioactive molecule and mechanism of action,” said Meenakumari.
NIS is a research centre and educational institute in the Siddha system of medicine in Chennai. NIS Chennai intends to develop the standards of postgraduate education in the Siddha medicine system and to conduct research and validate the Siddha medicines.
