IIT Kharagpur begins admission counselling for 4 year Integrated BSc-BEd course under ITEP

In this 4- year integrated programme, the students will have a Dual Major undergraduate degree in a specific discipline along with BEd.
NEW DELHI: IIT Kharagpur has commenced the admission counselling for a four-year Integrated BSc-BEd (Secondary Stage) course under Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) today, September 13. The programme has been introduced as per the advice of the Ministry of Education along the lines of NEP 2020.
The 4-year integrated Dual Major programme comes with one major in Education and the other in any of the following four disciplines: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics. The total number of seats available at IIT Kharagpur is 50, distributed across four disciplinary majors.

A student will be allotted any one of these Disciplinary Majors based the marks scored in the National Common Entrance Test (NCET).
VK Tewari, Director, IIT Kharagpur said, "With time, IIT Kharagpur has expanded its ambit from offering Engineering to Sciences, Management, Law, Medical Science, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Financial Engineering and Humanities and Social Sciences.
"The School of Education has been established at IIT Kharagpur with the objective to offer the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) which is first of its kind in the IIT system. In this 4 year integrated programme, the students will have a Dual Major undergraduate degree in a specific discipline along with B.Ed," he added.
The students joining this programme shall be specialized in the Secondary Stage of School Education, which will qualify them to become teachers at that stage. The total number of seats available at IIT Kharagpur is 50, distributed across the four disciplinary majors.
KGP has started admission counselling for 4 year Integrated BSc-BEd (Secondary Stage) under Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) for the academic session 2023-24. It is a 4-year integrated Dual Major programme, with one major in Education and the other in any of the following four disciplines: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics.
A student will be allotted any one of the above Disciplinary Majors based on his/her score in the National Common Entrance Test (NCET). The programme is introduced as per the advice of the Ministry of Education along the lines of NEP 2020. ITEP intends to develop among student teachers ethics of social engagement, and capacities such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication skills, ethical and moral reasoning, etc.

In this 4 year integrated programme, the students will have a Dual Major undergraduate degree in a specific discipline along with BEd. The BSc-BEd programme is credit-based and offers the flexibility to progress at one's own pace. It is a new addition to the ever-expanding vision of inclusive professional and need-based education.
The students joining this programme shall be specialized in the Secondary Stage of School Education, which will qualify them to become teachers at that stage.
