IIT Kanpur launches online MTech, MSc PG diploma for working professionals, graduates
Candidates will be selected either through valid national-level test scores such as GATE, JAM, CEED, CAT, GRE, GMAT with department-specific cut-offs or through IIT Kanpur’s online entrance test.
The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has launched an online MTech, MSc and postgraduate diploma (PG diploma) programmes for working professionals and graduates across the country. Eligible candidates can apply for the courses through the official website at online.iitk.ac.in.
The engineering institute offers online programmes in various fields including MTech in wireless networks & machine learning, RF engineering, microelectronics & VLSI, MSc in economics and data analytics and PG diplomas in artificial intelligence & machine learning, cyber security, and renewable energy technologies.
The programmes are designed to equip learners to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world and to contribute meaningfully to national and global progress, according to the official statement.
Vimal Kumar, professor-in-charge of the office of outreach activities, stated: “The future belongs to those who embrace change and innovate. IIT Kanpur’s new online M.Tech., M.Sc., and PG Diploma programs combine the flexibility of digital learning with IITK’s academic rigor, preparing students for leadership in technology, economics, and emerging fields.”

“Whether you are a professional, a graduate, or a lifelong learner, these programs provide an opportunity to enhance your expertise, sharpen your skills, and make a meaningful impact,” Kumar added.
As per the eligibility criteria, candidates seeking admission to these online courses must have a minimum CPI of 5.5 or 55% marks in their qualifying degree.
They will be selected either through valid national-level test scores such as GATE, JAM, CEED, CAT, GRE, GMAT with department-specific cut-offs or through IIT Kanpur’s online entrance test.
Furthermore, the various departments at the engineering institutes may also set additional requirements such as relevant academic background, core coursework, professional or research experience, CPI thresholds or an extra test and or interview.

Defence employees exempted from entrance test
Those having professional work experience of more than 5 years and those nominated or sponsored by government or defence organisations are exempted from the online entrance test.
In addition, candidates will have an option of flexible learning opportunities. They can continue working while pursuing higher education and earn senate-approved degrees and diplomas at the convocation.
“Learners will gain flexible learning options—M.Tech./M.Sc. (2–4 years) and PG Diplomas (1–2 years), direct mentorship, and live sessions with IIT Kanpur faculty,” the institute said.
The online programmes include practical applications with combined academic sessions with interactive sessions. On successful completion of the course, candidates will gain technical expertise and develop strong problem-solving and leadership skills.
“Graduates will gain the IIT Kanpur edge—a legacy of innovation, leadership, and societal contribution—making them future-ready professionals equipped to lead in technology, economics, policy, and emerging fields,” the press release reads.
