IIT Guwahati, Gifu University Japan award degrees for joint master’s programme

Four Japanese students were awarded the degree in a virtual ceremony after completing on-campus classes at IIT Guwahati for a semester from July 2019 to November 2019.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati and Japan’s Gifu University awarded the first-ever batch of a joint international master’s programme in food science and technology on Thursday.
The programme was launched in April 2019 to aid skilled professionals in food and related industries. In the first batch of the programme, four students from Japan, Yume Saito, Ayaka Tsuchiya, Haruka Maruyama, and Tatsushi Aoyagi, completed their graduation.
The students were awarded the degree in a virtual ceremony after completing on-campus classes at IIT Guwahati for a semester from July 2019 to November 2019.
“This is indeed a historic moment for the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University, Japan that our joint vision, commitment and collaboration to establish this Joint Degree Programme is finally bearing fruit,” said T. G. Sitharam, director, IIT Guwahati.
He further lauded the quality of research work and papers by the four students. “The quality of students, faculty and researchers will ensure that we become role models in running a successful international collaboration programme,” Sitharam added.
The virtual convocation was organised at the Gifu University attended by Hisataka Moriwaki, president, Gifu University and Fumiiaki Suzuki, a Gifu University fellow.
