IIT Guwahati opens application for BSc (hons) data science, AI; admissions through JEE Advanced

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has started accepting applications for its online 4-year bachelors of science (honors) in data science (DS) and artificial intelligence (AI) programme for the academic year 2026-27. Students can apply online for the BSc (hons) DS, AI programme on the official website, opadmission.iitg.ac.in, by April 30.

The online BSc honours programme will commence on September 7.

According to the official IIT Guwahati press release, Class 12 or equivalent students with a minimum 60% marks from a recognised board or university can apply. The institute will accept students for direct admission with JEE Advanced scores.

IIT Guwahati’s online BSc programme allows students to exit at different stages with recognised certifications, including:

• After 1 st year - Advanced Certificate in DS and AI
• After 2nd year - Diploma in DS and AI
• After 3rd year - BSc Degree in DS and AI
• After 4th year - BSc (Honours) Degree in DS and AI

Students who exit at the certificate, diploma, or BSc degree stage can rejoin after a one-year gap. The programme is also suitable for working professionals seeking to upskill in AI and DS fields.

IIT Guwahati’s BSc (hons) in data science, artificial intelligence

IIT Guwahati’s BSc (hons) in DS and AI follows a trimester system with three terms per year, offering:

• A comprehensive, industry-focused curriculum that blends foundational to advanced concepts with hands-on training, including internships, term projects, and a final-year capstone for real-world experience.
• Engaging 12-week course structure featuring interactive video lectures, real-world case studies, and live sessions led by IIT Guwahati faculty and industry experts.
• Students from 70 countries, including the USA, Canada, China, UAE, Singapore, UK, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Nepal and Japan are already enrolled.
• Recorded lectures and online sessions by IIT Guwahati faculty and industry experts for flexible learning, with doubt-clearing sessions.
• Get hands-on experience with industry tools like Jupyter Notebook, RStudio, VS Code, and Crowd Software Consoles via Coursera Labs, with no setup required.
• Students can leverage India’s powerful PARAM Kamrupa and PARAM Ishan supercomputers to perform high-end computational tasks during capstone projects.
• A 4-week optional on-campus immersion, held over four session, for in-person training and networking.
• Participants can attend the annual AI confluence at the IITG campus, a collaborative event designed exclusively for IITG students, showcasing academic and professional activities in DS and AI.
