IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi starts with 19 students in MTech Energy Transition and Sustainability

IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi’s admission process is a mix of the Indian and foreign systems with work experience, GATE or GRE scores as part of the criteria.

Download NowNEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi Abu Dhabi campus has inducted its first batch of students – 19 have joined its MTech in Energy Transition and Sustainability programme. The programme started from January 29. Currently, IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi is functioning at Zayed University’s campus in Abu Dhabi.
The agreement between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for setting up an IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi was signed in July 2023. The education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, announced the first course offering at IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi campus in November last year during his visit to the UAE. According to reports, other courses will be offered from September 2024 onwards.
According to the website, MTech in Energy Transition and Sustainability offers two specialisations: Technologies for Decarbonisation and Economics Policy and Planning for Energy Transition. The course has 53 credits including foundation and elective courses along with a research project and internships components.
The course will have a blend of both sponsored and non-sponsored candidates.
Eligibility criteria, admission process
IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi considered applicants with at least four years of engineering degree or three years of engineering and two years of masters in engineering with minimum CGPA of 7.5 for admission to the programme . The institute also asked for English language tests including TOEFL or IELTS. Further for the masters course, candidates also need to have a minimum of one year of experience or 350 score in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) or 150 score in Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
The admission process included submission of application, shortlisting, interview for candidates with experience and written test for students with less than one year of experience followed by an interview.
The IIT Delhi director had earlier told Careers360 they were considering using the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and JEE Advanced tests for admission in undergraduate programmes at the Abu Dhabi campus. This year, Abu Dhabi has been added to the list of JEE Main exam cities .
