IIT Bombay has provided 4,000+ sqft space for gaushala, but has not allotted space for over 2,000 SC, ST students, the APPSC claimed.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) is yet to provide space for the more than 2,000 Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, the students of Ambedkar Phule Periyar Study Circle (APPSC) alleged.
Claiming that the IIT Bombay administration has been repeatedly denying the request for an office room, the APPSC students body in a social media post said, “The SC/ST cell of IIT Bombay is still not given a physical space by the institute. Even for the cows, IIT Bombay has provided 4000+sqft space for gaushala, but won't provide space for the 2000+ Dalit Bahujan Adivasi students.”

The students body also shared images of empty rooms available on campus and said that the administration has provided every other club a space but not for SC, ST students.
Even after repeated requests an office room is being denied (not even 100sqft), despite unused rooms being available. Every other club, cell and body like Gender cell, students wellness centre, dance club, Film club etc in the institute has a room. @dpradhanbjp @EduMinOfIndia pic.twitter.com/UloHuUj9ox

As per the Indian Express report, the IIT Bombay spokesperson denied the claims and said, “This is incorrect information. A place has been allotted to APPSC, just recently. It will be handed over to them post required renovation.”
The poster shared by the APPSC read, “No space for Dalit Bahujan Adivasi students in IIT Bombay”.
