Download NowThe Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has opened the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 registration window today, August 28. Eligible candidates can apply for GATE 2026 on the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The last date for GATE 2026 registration is September 28 without a late fee.
IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE 2026 exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15 at various test centres across the country. The test will be held in two shifts: the forenoon session from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the afternoon session from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
The GATE 2026 exam will be conducted for 30 test papers for admission to postgraduate programmes. This year, IIT Guwahati introduced a new energy science sectional paper under the engineering science subject.
GATE 2026 application fee for female, scheduled caste (SC), scheduled tribe (ST), and persons with disabilities (PwD) categories is Rs 1,000, and other candidates have to pay Rs 2,000 for each paper. Candidates who miss the GATE 2026 registration deadline have to pay an additional fee of Rs 500 to submit their application.

The steps to apply for GATE 2026 are as follows.
- Visit the official website on gate2026.iitg.ac.in login
- Click on the GATE registration link portal and complete the registration process.
- Login credentials will be generated.
- Fill out the GATE 2026 application form.
- Upload scanned images of the requisite documents.
- Pay the GATE 2026 registration fee.
- Check all the details filled in the GATE 2026 application form.
- Submit the GATE registration 2026.
The GATE 2026 exam is conducted for Master of Engineering (ME) and Master of Technology (MTech) admission at IITs, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and other institutions. GATE-qualified candidates are also eligible to apply for Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) recruitment.
