GATE 2022: IIT Kharagpur to add two new papers in exam, says report

IIT Kharagpur are also planning to increase the number of GATE 2022 exam centres to provide convenience for small town candidates appearing for the exam during pandemic, as per reports.

Download NowNEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, and the rest of IITs have decided to add two new papers for Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) 2022 as per Times of India report. With this, the total number of GATE papers will be 29. The two new papers for GATE 2022 will be Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, and Geomatics Engineering.
As per the TOI report, the conducting IITs are also planning to increase the number of GATE 2022 exam centres. The sole motive is to provide convenience for small town candidates appearing for GATE 2022 during the pandemic situation.
The decision was taken in the meeting of the National Coordination Board held for the official handover of GATE responsibilities from IIT Bombay (GATE 2021 organizing body) to IIT Kharagpur (GATE 2022 organizing body).

It may be noted that IIT Bombay had introduced various changes in GATE 2021. Two new papers were introduced for GATE 2021 resulting in 27 papers and candidates of third year of graduation were eligible for GATE. Also, the authorities allowed GATE candidates to apply for more than one paper of GATE. All these changes will be applicable for GATE 2022 as well.
About GATE
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is conducted by one of the Indian Institutes of Technology. GATE exam is conducted for admissions into postgraduate programmes offered by the participating institutes. GATE qualified candidates have to participate in the counselling process based on their ranks and get admission accordingly.
