Fake notice on exam cancellation, students’ return to homes circulating: UGC

UGC confirms notice claiming that all UG, PG, diploma, certificate exams have been cancelled and students have been asked to return homes due to ‘war situation’ is fake.
NEW DELHI : A fake notice is making rounds on social media claiming that University Grants Commission (UGC) has cancelled the exams due to war situations and advised students to return to their homes, the commission said and alerted students and parents about the false claim.
“A fabricated public notice is being circulated under the name UGC, claiming that all exams are cancelled due to a war situation and advising students to return home. UGC confirms this notice is fake. There are no such directions from UGC. All official updates are only on the UGC website and official social media channels of UGC,” the commission said in a post on X.
As per the fake notice, UGC issued a directive on exemption of all examinations and advisory to return home during ongoing war situation. All graduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate exams have been cancelled with immediate effect until further notice.
“In light of the extraordinary and emergent situation arising from the ongoing war and in vary of ensuring safety and well-being of students, faculty, and institutional staff, the University Grants Commission hereby issues the following directive,” the fake notice read.

Students are advised to return to their homes at the earliest in interest of safety and security, the notification added.
“All Higher Educational Institutions are directed to comply with this advisory and extend necessary support to facilitate the safe return of students and staff,” the fake UGC notice further said.
Several educational institutions across the country have been ordered shut as a precautionary measure following the ‘Operation Sindoor’ – missile strike by India. Notably, Kashmir University has postponed all exams.
