No victory processions in cleaner DUSU elections
Thanks to Delhi High Court’s intervention, students enjoyed a “clean and green” atmosphere during this year’s DU student elections. For the very same reason, the victory procession after the results will not be seen.
A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela ordered strict actions against violations of election rules. The HC observed that something needed to be done to stop the display of money and muscle power in students' union elections, noting that high-end luxury vehicles, tractors and JCBs were being used for campaigning during the polls.
Last year, noting the defacement done by the candidates and their supporters, the high court halted the DUSU election results till all the defacement material, including posters, hoardings and graffiti, was removed and public property was restored.
The counting of votes for Delhi University election results 2025 started at 8 am today. DU recorded nearly 40% voter turnout this year and saw a battle between three major parties including an alliance of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students’ Association (AISA).
This year’s DUSU polls were special as women candidates made a comeback in the front row. With two female candidates contesting for the two major posts, the university witnessed their presence after almost 20 years.
Even on the DUSU election result day, ABVP and NSUI were seen trading allegations against each other. The Congress student wing had accused ABVP of “ vote chori ”.
More than 2.8 lakh candidates cast their votes for DU elections in two phases. Notably, 21 candidates were contesting for presidential post in the DUSU polls 2025 and approximately 700 electronic voting machines (EVMs) and 155 polling booths were set up across 52 DU colleges.
