However, the decision is unlikely to be finalised before the RC Kuhad committee, constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to recommend measures to salvage the academic schedule, submits its recommendations, a senior official told Hindustan. Further, the proposal to cancel was not for final-year students for whom, everyone agreed, exams should be conducted.
Delhi University later issued a notification stating that the schedule for year-end and semester-end examination will be notified in due course of time and denied the claim of any such proposal for promoting first and second-year students without examinations.
The proposal was made on the fact that the number of students in the first year is higher than the second-year students, and likewise, the strength of students in the second year is higher than that of the third year. Considering this fact, the officials highlighted the concern over the hardship of conducting the examinations. If the proposal is ratified, the students will be promoted to the next year based on their past academic record.
The varsity is also planning to prepone the summer vacations from April 15 to May 15 in order to avoid any delay in the next academic session. Earlier, the university has postponed all kind of examinations for both regular and correspondence students until further notice, in the view of COVID 19 outbreak.
Update: This copy has been updated to include Delhi University's statement on the exams.
