Disabled MBBS aspirant denied admission in MP medical college: HC seeks reply from NMC

Try NowNEW DELHI: The Jabalpur High Court has sought a response from the department of medical education (DME) and the National Medical Commission (NMC) for denying admission to a physically challenged candidate in MBBS course, according to the Free Press Journal report.

The medical aspirant, Priyanshi Meena, cleared National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and was allotted a seat in Shahdol Medical College. However, she was denied admission due to her deformity, the report said.

On being denied admission, the candidate filed a petition in the High Court. She invoked her rights under the Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
As per the guidelines of the NMC, admission to medical courses is restricted to candidates with over 80% physical disabilities. However, the petitioner has declared that she is only 65% disabled and further said that the medical college has violated the rule by denying admission.

NEET-UG is a national medical entrance examination conducted every year for students who are interested in pursuing MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, BVSc courses. This year, the BSc Nursing admissions will be done through NEET scores.
Meanwhile, students who qualified NEET 2021 are awaiting the NEET counselling schedule for admission. The MCC will be conducting MBBS and BDS counselling for 15 per cent all India quota seats. And, the AACCC will be holding counselling for AYUSH courses.
