Delhi schools to reopen tomorrow; no class before 9 am amid cold wave

Delhi Cold Wave: The Directorate of Education has asked school to not conduct physical classes beyond 5 pm due to cold weather conditions.
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Directorate of Education has announced the reopening of government and private schools for all classes in physical mode from Monday, January 15. However, the government has imposed timing-related constraints for the functioning of schools given cold weather conditions.
According to the directive, no school, including double-shift schools will begin classes before 9 am. Additionally, schools are directed not to extend their classes beyond 5 pm until further directions are provided.
"It is directed that all students of Government, Government Aided and Recognised Private Schools shall join back classes in physical mode at their respective schools with effect from 15/01/2024 (Monday). This includes Nursery, KG and Primary classes as well," the Directorate of Education said.
“However, taking precaution in view of the prevailing foggy conditions, no school (including double shift schools) will start before 9 am and have classes beyond 5 p.m. till further directions," the order added.
All the teaching and non-teaching staff in Delhi has been asked to join the duty as usual from Monday. Earlier, the Directorate of Education had extended the winter vacation in Delhi schools till January 10 due to cold weather conditions.

Delhi is struggling with severe cold weather conditions. On Sunday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest this winter. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very dense fog and cold wave for more two days in the national capital. The city could see dense fog till January 20, it said.
