Delhi primary schools to remain closed till January 12

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has announced that schools in the city will remain closed for students of nursery to Class 5 till January 12 due to the prevailing cold wave. The announcement was made by Delhi education minister Atishi on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Atishi said, “ Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next 5 days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from Nursery to Class 5.”

Other cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) have also directed schools under their jurisdiction to close. The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration on Saturday ordered all schools in Noida and Greater Noida to declare holiday for students up to Class 8 till January 14. District Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar said the order stands applicable to all schools recognised by the state board, CBSE, ICSE, IB and others in the district.

Schools in other district of UP will also remain closed for students of nursery and Class 8. The UP government has also announced a 15-day winter break, from December 31 to January 14, 2024 due to heavy fog and cold wave.

School timings in Una district in Himachal Pradesh have also been revised due to dip in temperature. An order issued by Una Deputy Commissioner Raghan Sharma on Thursday said the primary schools will open at 10 am and close at 3 pm, they said. Recently, the representatives of the District Primary Teachers Association had met District Deputy Director of Primary Education Devendra Chandel and raised the demand for a change in the timings.
