Delhi govt launches initiative to equip school students with AI skills; classes from December 15

The Delhi government has launched a ‘Delhi AI Grind’ initiative to train school students using artificial intelligence (AI) skills. The initiative aims to create AI awareness and equip Classes 6 to 9 and 11 students to solve real-world problems using new-age technologies.

The training will be open to students aged 10 to 25, while participation will be mandatory for students from Classes 6 to 9 and 11.

“The initiative—part of the government’s New Era of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Vision (NEEEV)—will be rolled out across all education districts of Delhi between December and March,” according to the Department of Education (DoE).

The ‘Delhi AI Grind’ initiative will be implemented by the DoE, Higher and Technical Education, in collaboration with the ViSV foundation.

Delhi school-level ‘mini grind’

“School Innovation Councils (SICs) and designated NEEEV teachers will also support the programme by mentoring participating students,” said the DoE.

As per the detailed timeline released by the DoE, schools are required to register on the Delhi AI Grind portal and nominate five student campus ambassadors by December 8.

“School-level “mini grind” sessions will begin on December 15, followed by internal evaluations. Students will then move on to district-level and state-level selections,” DoE added.

On behalf of the Directorate, Additional Director of Education KS Upadhyay has been appointed as the nodal officer for school-level coordination.

Under the programme, students will learn about key areas such as mobility, logistics, smart cities, sustainability, energy, climate, education, health, and public safety, among others.
