Delhi govt to set up armed forces preparatory school to train students for NDA: Report

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government is planning to set up armed forces preparatory school in South West Delhi, as per a Times of India report. The school is a part of the government’s project under its ‘Desh Bhakti Budget’ and will have classes from 9 to 12 only, the report said.

Not only regular teachers, retired army personnel will also teach students in the new school to create and inculcate the culture, values of the armed forces, the report said.

An official told TOI that the armed forces preparatory school is a part of Schools of Specialised Excellence (SoSEs) which will be established in South West Delhi’s Jharoda Kalan area. Last year, the government launched four types of SoSEs and this school will be the fifth of its kind. It would be a fully residential school from Classes 9 to 12. The school will be affiliated to Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) and each batch will comprise 100 students.

DBSE will introduce and finalize the curriculum of the new school which will aim towards working on foundation and specialisation.. While the foundational feature of the curriculum will focus on enhancing language skills and improving subjects such as mathematics, social science and science, the specialisation aspect will aid students in clearing the National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance exam, the report said.

Interested students can fill the application form for admission to AFPS and the government will conduct a physical aptitude test and written exam in March end. After the two exams, the next round of assessment will be done according to the norms of the NDA. Students will be required to do some physical activities and follow tutorials and case studies as per NDA norms, the report said.

Only those students who reside in Delhi and study in a recognised government or private school are eligible to apply for the new school, the report added.
