CUET UG 2024 application form likely today; less papers, more centres expected this year

NEW DELHI: The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG application form 2024 is likely to be out today. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will begin the CUET UG 2024 registration on the official website, cuet.samarth.ac.in. CUET UG 2024 exam date is May 15-31.

The third edition of the CUET UG exam will be conducted for admission to undergraduate degree programmes offered by central, state, private, and deemed universities across the country.

Since the test was first introduced, there has been an increase in the number of registrations. Last year, a total of 14.99 lakh unique candidates registered for the exam while the overall attendance increased to 74.44%. Around 3.83 lakh students were absent from the exam which included more male candidates than females.

The debut edition of CUET UG was marred by technical glitches and last-minute changes whereas, last year, students were unhappy with the normalisation of scores as it brought down their overall scores. Keeping these issues in mind, the University Grants Commission and NTA are working on bringing changes to the mode and duration of the test.

UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar recently told PTI that NTA is planning to conduct the exam in hybrid mode so that the exam can be conducted in more schools and colleges and students can appear in the nearby exam centres. There will be a pen and paper mode exam for subjects with a large number of registrations while those with lesser registrations will be held in computer-based mode.

Moreover, students might be appearing for a maximum of six papers only instead of 10 this year. Not only will this help in conducting the exam in a shorter duration and in a lesser number of days but will also allow holding the test for a subject on a single day unlike the last two editions, Kumar had said. With this, normalisation of scores will no longer be required, he added.
