COVID-19 lockdown: DU ramps up online teaching with Google apps

NEW DELHI: The University of Delhi (DU) has integrated Google Classes and Google Hangout to its web domain to provide learning support to students.

DU shifted to online teaching to maintain continuity in the learning process during the lockdown.

The teachers can now use the Google services to impart courses.

The University has also provided links to tutorials to help the teachers understand how to use these apps and conduct classes online.

Many video-based collaborative free services like Skype, Zoom, Loom, webex are also available to the teachers.

The DU has integrated these services with the email account of its teachers and students. The teachers just need to login and select the two services listed there.

The apps

The teachers should use a link ( https://accounts.google.com ) to proceed.

Google Classroom: It works like learning management system or LMS. Teachers can share any type of document (like Doc, PPT, and PDF), create assignments, share links and conduct online assessment. Multiple classes can be created by the users according to their requirements.

Hangout: This service can be used for live video interaction with the students. This can be run along with the Google classroom.

Along with their live video, the teachers can share multiple files (including those on their laptop/mobile screen) with their students.

Universities across the country have shut down operations due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Teachers have been instructed to use digital resources for teaching, assessment and evaluation. They have been advised to utilize the time in developing online content, online evaluation, and in online teaching.
