IIT Jodhpur researchers developed an AI-based solution for COVID-19 screening
NEW DELHI: Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur have developed an alternate method of COVID-19 testing by using chest X-ray images since the symptoms of COVID-19 are detectable on chest X-rays. The method makes use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology for predicting COVID-19 from chest x-rays. The researchers are planning to develop a prototype of this project.
The diagnosis algorithm named COMiT-Net is a deep learning-based AI algorithm developed by IIT Jodhpur. The COVID-19 diagnosis method not only identifies affected individuals by assessing their chest X-rays, but also identifies the infected regions in the lungs. It can also create visual images of the infected region.

The research team included visiting research scholars, PhD students, professors, a pulmonologist, and a radiologist. A research paper has been published regarding the IIT Jodhpur COVID-19 diagnosis technique in the journal Pattern Recognition (Volume 122).
“The research is part of the RAKSHAK project under NM-CPS DST and iHuB Drishti at IIT Jodhpur,” said a statement from IIT Jodhpur.

Recently, researchers at IIT Delhi’s Kusuma School of Biological Sciences, (KSBS) had developed an RT-PCR testing method for identifying the COVID-19 Omicron variant. IIT Delhi also filed for patent rights for the RT-PCR method, which is capable of providing Covid test results within 90 minutes of testing.
